Job Description

Biofuels Processing TechniciansCalculate, measure, load, mix, and process refined feedstock with additives in fermentation or reaction process vessels and monitor production process. Perform, and keep records of, plant maintenance, repairs, and safety inspections.

Biofuels Production ManagersManage biofuels production and plant operations. Collect and process information on plant production and performance, diagnose problems, and design corrective procedures.

Biofuels/Biodiesel Technology and Product Development ManagersDefine, plan, or execute biofuels/biodiesel research programs that evaluate alternative feedstock and process technologies with near-term commercial potential.

Chemical Plant and System OperatorsControl or operate entire chemical processes or system of machines.

ChemistsConduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses or experiments in laboratories for quality or process control or to develop new products or knowledge.

Continuous Mining Machine OperatorsOperate self-propelled mining machines that rip coal, metal and nonmetal ores, rock, stone, or sand from the mine face and load it onto conveyors or into shuttle cars in a continuous operation.

Derrick Operators, Oil and GasRig derrick equipment and operate pumps to circulate mud through drill hole.

Earth Drillers, Except Oil and GasOperate a variety of drills such as rotary, churn, and pneumatic to tap sub-surface water and salt deposits, to remove core samples during mineral exploration or soil testing, and to facilitate the use of explosives in mining or construction. May use explosives. Includes horizontal and earth boring machine operators.

Excavating and Loading Machine and Dragline OperatorsOperate or tend machinery equipped with scoops, shovels, or buckets, to excavate and load loose materials.

Gas Compressor and Gas Pumping Station OperatorsOperate steam, gas, electric motor, or internal combustion engine driven compressors. Transmit, compress, or recover gases, such as butane, nitrogen, hydrogen, and natural gas.

Geological Sample Test TechniciansTest or analyze geological samples, crude oil, or minerals to detect presence of petroleum, gas, or mineral deposits indicating potential for exploration or production or to determine physical or chemical properties to ensure that products meet quality standards.

Geophysical Data TechniciansMeasure, record, or evaluate geological data, using sonic, electronic, electrical, seismic, or gravity-measuring instruments to prospect for oil or gas. May collect or evaluate core samples or cuttings.

Geoscientists, Except Hydrologists and GeographersStudy the composition, structure, and other physical aspects of the Earth. May use geological, physics, and mathematics knowledge in exploration for oil, gas, minerals, or underground water; or in waste disposal, land reclamation, or other environmental problems. May study the Earth's internal composition, atmospheres, oceans, and its magnetic, electrical, and gravitational forces. Includes mineralogists, crystallographers, paleontologists, stratigraphers, geodesists, and seismologists.

Helpers--Extraction WorkersHelp extraction craft workers, such as earth drillers, blasters and explosives workers, derrick operators, and mining machine operators, by performing duties requiring less skill. Duties include supplying equipment or cleaning work area.

Loading Machine Operators, Underground MiningOperate underground loading machine to load coal, ore, or rock into shuttle or mine car or onto conveyors. Loading equipment may include power shovels, hoisting engines equipped with cable-drawn scraper or scoop, or machines equipped with gathering arms and conveyor.

Mine Cutting and Channeling Machine OperatorsOperate machinery such as longwall shears, plows, and cutting machines to cut or channel along the face or seams of coal mines, stone quarries, or other mining surfaces to facilitate blasting, separating, or removing minerals or materials from mines or from the Earth's surface. Includes shale planers.

Mine Shuttle Car OperatorsOperate diesel or electric-powered shuttle car in underground mine to transport materials from working face to mine cars or conveyor.

Mining and Geological Engineer, Including Mining Safety EngineersConduct sub-surface surveys to identify the characteristics of potential land or mining development sites. May specify the ground support systems, processes and equipment for safe, economical, and environmentally sound extraction or underground construction activities. May inspect areas for unsafe geological conditions, equipment, and working conditions. May design, implement, and coordinate mine safety programs.

Petroleum EngineersDevise methods to improve oil and gas extraction and production and determine the need for new or modified tool designs. Oversee drilling and offer technical advice.

Petroleum Pump System Operators, Refinery Operators, and GaugersOperate or control petroleum refining or processing units. May specialize in controlling manifold and pumping systems, gauging or testing oil in storage tanks, or regulating the flow of oil into pipelines.

Poets, Lyricists and Creative WritersCreate original written works, such as scripts, essays, prose, poetry or song lyrics, for publication or performance.

Pump Operators, Except Wellhead PumpersTend, control, or operate power-driven, stationary, or portable pumps and manifold systems to transfer gases, oil, other liquids, slurries, or powdered materials to and from various vessels and processes.

Rock Splitters, QuarrySeparate blocks of rough dimension stone from quarry mass using jackhammer and wedges.

Roof Bolters, MiningOperate machinery to install roof support bolts in underground mine.

Rotary Drill Operators, Oil and GasSet up or operate a variety of drills to remove underground oil and gas, or remove core samples for testing during oil and gas exploration.

Roustabouts, Oil and GasAssemble or repair oil field equipment using hand and power tools. Perform other tasks as needed.

Service Unit Operators, Oil, Gas, and MiningOperate equipment to increase oil flow from producing wells or to remove stuck pipe, casing, tools, or other obstructions from drilling wells. May also perform similar services in mining exploration operations. Includes fishing-tool technicians.

Wellhead PumpersOperate power pumps and auxiliary equipment to produce flow of oil or gas from wells in oil field.
